Welcome to English I! I look forward to a successful and productive school year. In this class, you will work on becoming a proficient reader, writer, and critical thinker. You will practice close reading strategies, text analysis, organizing relevant evidence, and forming and evaluating arguments.
In order to be successful in this course, it is important that you attend class (prepared with proper supplies), complete any homework assignments, and participate while in class. You will receive grades for participation (10%), assessments and projects (40%), classwork (40%), and homework (10%). I will try to set aside time each Friday in class to share your progress and grade with you. Your grade will be accessible on Infinite Campus as well. I will also be available after school by appointment for meetings about class progress and/or for extra help. I utilize Schoology for nearly all assignments, so you will be expected to use the site (accessible through www.buffaloschools.org ) frequently.
Any homework assigned will be due the day after it is assigned (unless otherwise noted by me or in the case of an absence). Homework will not be accepted if it is more than one week late; late assignments will be subject to some loss of points (depending on the assignment). You can always see me for details or for help with any assignment.
Three pronged folder w/pockets
Lined Paper (in folder)

Assessments, writing assignments, and projects will be announced well in advance, as will most quizzes. You may have an occasional pop quiz, usually presented during the class warm up. In some cases, I may allow you to complete test or essay corrections to boost your grade.
