Course Outline
Grade 11 and Grade 12 Differentiated English classes emphasize skill development in the areas of reading comprehension, grammar and vocabulary acquisition, and written expression.

Skill development is focused on maximizing students' abilities to respond to questions in complete sentences, pass assessments, read and decipher expository text, analyze literature for plot and figurative language, write multi-paragraph essays and master the general conventions of written self-expression.

Each student's literacy level is supported by individualized IEP goals for specific reading and writing demands. Using a variety of materials, including access to grade level materials, appropriate modifications are made to the curriculum in order for students to be successful and earn credits necessary for graduation.

While the emphasis in elementary school is to "learning to read and write", the emphasis in my grade 11 and grade 12 English program is on "reading to learn" (decipher factual material) and learning to use the writing process well.
